Iranian FM holds telephone conversation with Australian counterpart
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Australian counterpart Ms. Penny Wong have held talks about the most important issues of mutual interest between Tehran and Canberra.
While thanking the top Australian diplomat for her congratulations on the occasion of Nowruz, Amirabdollahian underlined the importance of the path of diplomacy and dialog. He said Iran considers ties with Australia as important, adding that there are diverse areas in which the two sides can cooperate at the bilateral, regional and international levels. Amirabdollahian pointed to the history of good cooperation between Iran and Australia in fighting terrorism in the past. He then said Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps is the most powerful force in the fight against the Daesh terrorist group and terrorism in the region and has played a key role in resorting regional stability and security.
The Iranian foreign minister further spoke about the presence of a leader of anti-Iran terror group al-Ahvazieh in Australia and stressed that the group is accused of killing and assassinating ordinary citizens of Iran.
The Australian foreign minister for her part congratulated Nowruz and underlined the need for continuing talks and diplomacy between the two countries. She said that her country believes the door for diplomacy must remain open in order to resolve misunderstandings.
Ms. Wong also welcomed the continuation of talks between Iran and the West and also cooperation between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency, calling it constructive.
The foreign ministers of Iran and Australia stressed the need to keep in touch and continue consultations.
